Jeremy Goldstein: A Shining Example of the New York State Bar Association

The New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in America. Founded in 1876 the bar association’s membership base now numbers over 75,000 strong and is still growing.

For more than three decades it has made the task of finding a locally skilled lawyer more convenient by offering an attorney referral service that matches members of the public with local lawyers according to the client’s need. Not one to rest on its laurels the New York State Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) has launched a new online portal to further help members of the public seeking a lawyer.

The online service is free and available 24 hours a day. Individuals still have the option to use the LRIS telephone service if they choose. The New York State Bar Association’s trained staff reported that they received over 10,000 phone calls in just last year alone. The online portal is a product of a collaboration between the bar association and legal.io, a legal provider of software and other IT solutions to attorneys and law firms.

The New York State Bar Association and legal.io believe the new service has great potential. Both companies are confident it will make a big impact on the legal system by offering individuals a lower pressure way to seek out an attorney who can readily deal with any legal issue they may have.
